Despite the bitter disappointment of missing out on the AFCON title, Omeruo remains steadfast in his dedication to representing his country.

 

The CB, who played a significant role in the tournament with five appearances, was on the bench in Nigeria’s defeat to Cote D’Ivoire.

Despite being one of the longest-serving members of the squad, the defender finds himself behind Semi Ajayi, Troost-Ekong, and Calvin Bassey in the team’s pecking order.

Addressing Nigerian reporters upon the team’s return to Abuja, Omeruo addressed speculations about his future in international football.

“My focus now is going back, continue playing regularly for my club and be available if called upon,” he said.

The former Chelsea players added that, he’s disappointed to miss out on the title.

“It was hurtful because we worked hard a lot from the starting to get to the final so it was difficult to take the loss but the players worked hard and gave it all throughout the tournament and didn’t complain for anything.​

“It happens, it is football but we have to build on this and focus on the next task. We have everything needed to win the title. It just wasn’t our day, we have to accept it and go forward,” He concluded.
