Allow Finidi George Pick his Assistants – Owolabi

Owolabi stressed the importance of empowering the head coach to assemble his own coaching staff to ensure the best possible results for the national team.

In a conversation with Brila Media, the NFF official emphasized that it is crucial for the coach to be given a free rein if it’ll enable him achieve success.

“I’m of the opinion in the first place that it is always good that you ask the man who takes the mantle of the leadership of the national team to pick his own assistants,” said Owolabi.

“That would be the best choice ever that you can ever make. The reason is because he knows who and who can work for him and how they can do it to almost ensure that they get the best of results.”

Owolabi further expressed his belief that imposing assistant coaches on the head coach could hinder the team’s performance and urged the NFF to respect the autonomy of the coach in making such decisions.

“It is not the best thing for the federations to come pick one or two, three coaches for him. The choice is his. The choice is his. Like I said, the technical department is so sad at the arms of the opinion that that is exactly what they will do.”
