After serving as a two-term governor in Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, will in a few months handover to another candidate in the All Progressives Congress (APC) or opposition parties.
This publication reports that 13 political parties fielded governorship candidates and their running mates for the March 2023 gubernatorial election in Ebonyi.
However, Naija News in this article takes a look at the track records of the major gubernatorial candidate and their parties.
1. Ifeanyichukwuma Odii: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate is a businessman and philanthropist. He is a member of the Lagos State University Governing board announced in 2021 by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Ifeanyichukwuma is also on the board of the Nnamdi Azikwe University Business School. Although he has not served in any political office, he has been recognized as top 50 CEOs that impacted and contributed to Nigeria’s GDP growth in 2021.
2. Francis Nwifuru: The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate is an entrepreneur and administrator who served as a two-term Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly. He is currently representing the Izzi West constituency at the State Legislature.
3. Edward Nkwegu: The Labour Party (LP) candidate is a newbie in politics and he has the massive support of the youths in the state.
In a recent interview with Vanguard, Edward pledged to transform the economy of the State from a consumption to a productive economy if elected as the Governor of the State.
He said: “I will make our economy viable, our education will be in highest ranking for good performance, there will be general good health delivery for all. There will be adequate security to enable investors come in and develop the State in partnership. Food security will be assured”
4. Chukwuma Nwandugo: The Action Alliance (AA) candidate is and Engineer and a former Commissioner for Works and Transport in Ebonyi State.
