Transfer: It’s a shame, you’re treating De Jong like meat – Gary Lineker slams Barcelona
Former Barcelona striker, Gary Lineker, has hit out at the club over midfielder Frenkie de Jong’s situation at Camp Nou.
Lineker said it is a shame that Barcelona are treating De Jong like a ‘piece of meat’ over his future at the club.
De Jong has drawn the interest of both Manchester United and Chelsea this summer.
But the Netherlands international wants to remain at Barcelona, where he is highly valued by his manager Xavi Hernandez.
Barcelona, however, are keen to sell De Jong in a bid to increase their finances and have instructed the player to take a pay cut should he wish to remain at the Catalan club.
“I feel for Frenkie a bit,” Lineker was quoted by Metro UK as saying.
“He’s been treated a bit like a piece of meat in the whole thing for circumstances totally out of his control.
“He’s a gifted young player and it’s very important for him he doesn’t go somewhere he doesn’t want to go.
“He has the playing cards in his hand in that sense. He will have to be quite strong. It is so weird.
“Barcelona seemingly wants him, but something has to give and it just seems a shame for it to end up like this.”
