Roy Jones Jr's most famous knockout saw him land brutal one punch KO with hands behind his back

Roy Jones Jr has an almost endless highlight reel, but sitting at the very top is his knockout of Glen Kelly.

The pair fought in 2002, when Jones was the undisputed light heavyweight world champion at the height of his powers.

Jones was utterly dominant against Kelly, winning every round of the first half of the fight and he dropped his opponent twice.

Then in round seven, he put the finishing touches on a masterclass performance with a stunning knockout.

Jones found himself up against the ropes, moving his head from left to right, as he showboated with his hands behind his back and he waited for Kelly to make the first move.

And as soon as Kelly flicked out a jab, Jones saw his opportunity and fired back with a thunderous right hand.

Kelly’s legs immediately buckled and he dropped down to the canvas and by this point the referee had seen enough as he waved off the bout.

This was not the end for Kelly, as he fought on for another three years.

But, for his final bout in 2005, Kelly came up against Britain’s David Haye and he was knocked out and subsequently retired from professional boxing.

As for Jones, a year after beating Kelly he moved up to the heavyweight division where he pulled off the incredible achievement of claiming an unanimous decision victory over John Ruiz to become WBA heavyweight world champion.

From there, Jones has had mixed results for the remainder of his career and he is still going today at 54 years old having fought former UFC fighter Anthony Pettis earlier this year and losing by majority decision.

In between then he crossed over into the exhibition circuit when he took on Mike Tyson during the pandemic on a card that also featured Jake Paul against Nate Robinson, who was appearing in just his second fight.

There are even rumours that Jones will take on Tommy Fury, the younger brother of WBC heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury, next year.
