Roy Jones Jr hilariously explains why he's not worried about Mike Tyson against Jake Paul

Roy Jones Jr insists Jake Paul is in for a rough night against Mike Tyson.

Concerns have been raised about Tyson’s health as he gears up to box a man 31 years his junior on July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

However, Jones Jr, the last man to step between the ropes with the boxing icon, claims Paul is the one that needs to be protected.

Joining Darren Bent and Troy Deeney on talkSPORT Drive on Thursday afternoon, ‘RJ’ said: “You’re not gonna see Mike get hurt because they are putting on 16oz gloves and headgear.

“They didn’t put that on to protect Mike, they put that on to protect Jake.

“When I fought Mike, we weren’t worried about Mike getting hurt everyone was worried about me getting hurt, I was the small guy.

“We don’t want to see legend get hurt. I didn’t want to get hurt but I would refuse to turn down the opportunity to share the ring with Mike Tyson.

“You do have to worry about that when you put two older legends in there together as sometimes their egos come out and they try and hurt each other.

“But in this Jake Paul situation, I don’t think Jake Paul is good enough to hurt Mike.

“He may be powerful with 10oz gloves but also if they had 10oz gloves on Mike might hurt him.

“My guess would be that Mike would hurt him more than he would hurt Mike.

“The headgear and the 16oz gloves are not there to protect the legend Mike Tyson but rather the young kid who knows not what he does by stepping in the ring with Mike Tyson.”

The rules for Tyson vs Paul are yet to be announced although ‘Iron Mike’ recently confirmed the fight would be an exhibition bout with ‘real fight’ regulations.

There were rumours circulating online that it would be fought in 16oz gloves and headgear yet esteemed MMA journalist Ariel Helwani reported last month that the contest will adopt a similar rule set to Tyson’s last outing against Jones Jr in 2020.

That night, neither man wore headgear and they boxed in 12oz gloves.
