In a decisive move to curb criminal activities in Anambra State, the police have apprehended seven individuals suspected of involvement in cultism and armed robbery, with a manhunt underway for two additional suspects.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the state police command, the arrested suspects include Chukwuemka Ozoekwe, Chidozie Anagor, Chukwuemeka Oyeoka, Ebuka Okoye, Olisa Obi, Chidubem Nwakwu, and Nwankwo Kosisochukwu, all males. However, Makuo Nwosu, alias Baby, and another unidentified individual remain at large.

The arrests were made following a patrol conducted by the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) at Unizik Junction, where operatives intercepted a group of males and five occupants of a tricycle. Upon attempted questioning, the occupants fled, but Chukwuemka Ozoekwe was successfully apprehended. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Chidozie Anagor and Chukwuemeka Oyeoka, with efforts ongoing to locate the remaining two fugitives.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Vipers Cult group, implicated in recent acts of terror within the Awka metropolis. They admitted to planning armed robberies targeting road users for their phones and personal belongings before their apprehension.

In response to the arrests, Deputy Commissioner of Police Fidelis Ogarabe emphasized the importance of sustaining efforts to combat crime in the state. He assured residents that the trust placed in law enforcement agencies would not be overlooked and directed that the suspects be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
