NLO UPDATE: How Internet Helped Us Get Victory Against Zenith Emperors - F8Ballers' Coach

F8Ballers of Surulere coach, Akeem Israel Ogunfowokan has revealed how checks through the internet helped him get the right tactics that floored Zenith Emperors FC in their first match of the Nationwide League One (NLO).

F8Ballers entered the game at Maracana Stadium, Ajegunle as underdogs, due to their status as newcomers in the third-tier league, but Ogunfowokan marshalled the right tactics that led his side to a 2-1 victory.

The result was made more dramatic in how The Ballers had to come from behind against their more experienced opponents, but they romped back in the second half to claim maximum points.

The result put F8Ballers fourth on the 11-team NLO Lagos zone table, behind Spartan, First Bank, and Real Sapphire, but ahead of Crime Fighters FC on goals difference, thereby leaving Ogunfowokan ecstatic and beaming with confidence ahead of all match day two fixtures at the same venue.

They will tackle First Bank on Friday, then tango bottom placed Alim City on Sunday and Real Sapphire the following Tuesday; with Ogunfowokan disclosing that he is excited and enthusiastic for victory in all three games.

“My face reveals my enthusiasm,” the jocular gaffer began. “I am so excited. This is our first appearance in the league and winning our first match. I am so excited. I’m so happy.”

He went on to explain details of his build-up plot for the encounter and how he eventually instilled the right tactics that helped his side shock The Emperors on Saturday.

Ogunfowokan added, “We prepared well for this match. Immediately, we got the fixtures and saw the opponent, we went online and searched for information about them.

“We studied their training, checked one or two things about them, and planned our strategy to beat them. We were able to work on that and capitalise on their weaknesses.”

Aside from planning his strategies with the help of the internet, the youthful tactician added how his efforts also helped to psyche up his players and boosted their zeal to succeed.

Ogunfowokan disclosed further: “I told my boys that anything-anything from this first match is winning for us. Their commitment, dedication, and discipline helped us.

“We were also determined that the match was to be winning for us. Though they scored first, my boys did not give up. We don’t give up. They remained determined throughout that this was a match we must win.

“We entered the second half with a mindset that we were going to equalise, and we did, then got the winning goal. So, discipline, commitment, and dedication gave us this win.”

He concluded with a vow that F8Ballers will keep their feet on the pedal, to ensure they pull off more surprises, and end up as real contenders for promotion to the Nigerian National League (NNL) at the end of the season.

“We know it’s a marathon league, and there are more matches to play … one day on, one day off. It’s our first time, but we believe we are the ones God wants, and we are here to give a surprise.

“We will surprise everybody because we are well prepared. The other teams should watch out for the surprises of F8Ballers,” Ogunfowokan warned tersely.
