In a shocking turn of events, a mother of four, Mrs. Nata Igbinovia, fell victim to a gruesome attack in Edo State while attempting to intervene in a fight, allegedly orchestrated by a man and his son.

The tragic incident unfolded on Saturday night, April 27, 2024, at Okpagha-Ewuare, Eyaen quarters, situated on the outskirts of Benin city along Auchi Road.

Confirming the disturbing occurrence, spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, disclosed that the primary suspect, identified as Ayo Mr. Philip, has been apprehended, and investigations into the matter are underway.

According to the victim’s daughter, Patience, the fatal altercation ensued when her mother intervened in a dispute between her nephew and their neighbors, purportedly involving the suspects. In the heat of the argument, Mr. Philip allegedly brandished a knife, intending to harm Patience’s cousin. Mrs. Igbinovia courageously intervened, sustaining injuries in the process.

Tragically, the situation escalated when the suspect’s son emerged from their residence wielding an axe, striking Mrs. Igbinovia on her back. In a horrifying sequence of events, Mr. Philip reportedly resumed his assault, fatally stabbing the victim in the chest.

Witnessing the brutal assault, the suspects fled the scene before help could arrive. However, a compassionate neighbor promptly provided assistance, transporting the injured Mrs. Igbinovia to the hospital, where she was tragically pronounced dead.

Operatives from the Eyaen police division swiftly responded to the incident, initiating a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the senseless killing.

The horrifying ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of escalating conflicts and underscores the need for swift justice to be served in the face of such heinous acts.
