Drake loses massive bet on Francis Ngannou to beat Anthony Joshua as fans predicted he ‘cursed’ him
The Drake curse reared its head once again after the rapper placed a huge bet on Francis Ngannou to beat Anthony Joshua.
The heavyweights clashed ‘Knockout Chaos’ on Friday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – and indeed, it was AJ who emerged victorious by KO.
Drake was always going to be a keen observer.
The superstar recording artist is known to be a big combat sports fan.
And he regularly places massive bets on sporting events including mega fights.
On Friday, Drake staked $615,000 (£477,000) on Ngannou to beat Joshua.
If the bet had won, it would have paid out $1.9million (£1.5million).
However, this of course was not the face.
Even before the fight, many Ngannou fans are not happy to hear about this bet.
Drake’s track record for sports betting is not great, to say the least.
He has even been accused of ‘cursing’ athletes and teams after being pictured with them.
Roma even joked on social media in 2019 that they had banned all of their players from having their pictures taken with Drake.
The Drake curse has even ironically befallen AJ himself, who jokingly said he was a victim after his American debut was marred, first by Jarrell Miller’s failed drug tests, and then by replacement Andy Ruiz Jr. handing him his first professional defeat.
One fan reacted to his bet on Ngannou by saying: “Damn. That means Ngannou is gonna lose.”
While a second commented: “Omg the Drake cruse.”
A third boxing fan added: “Bet on AJ everyone.”
And another wrote: “Can this dude stop betting on the same people I bet on. Bro is messing up my picks with that Drake betting curse lol.”
In the end, the fans were proved correct.
