Drake loses $250,000 despite correctly backing Leon Edwards to beat Colby Covington at UFC 296

Drake still managed to lose money despite predicting who would emerge victorious from the UFC 296 main event.

The cursed rapper worried fans when he revealed he had placed a whopping $250,000 bet on Leon Edwards to retain his title by beating Colby Covington in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

It was only September when Drake last tasted defeat after losing $500K on Israel Adesanya at UFC 293, when he was beaten by Sean Strickland.

Drake’s allegiance to sports has claimed other victims, too, including Anthony Joshua, Sergio Aguero, Conor McGregor and Jadon Sancho.

The One Dance singer took to Instagram to post a picture of his bet slip which showed him slapping big money on Edwards to beat Covington by KO.

The returns would’ve seen him win $1.2million, but Edwards was unable to find a finish during his fight against Covington at the T-Mobile Arena.

‘Rocky’ dominated his rival for most of the UFC 296 matchup, but never really looked like finding a finish during the five-round affair.

Ultimately, he survived a late wrestling rally from the American to pick up a unanimous decision victory courtesy of three 49-46 scorecards from the cageside judges.

Some fans were quick to poke fun at the rap star on social media.

One person wrote: “The Drake curse is the only thing that saved Colby from getting KO’d by Leon Edwards.”

Another tweeted: “Drake lost all that money betting on Leon Edwards TKO.”

However, some people believe Drake broke his curse respite losing $250K.

Someone else said: “Let’s all take a moment to appreciate the fact that Leon Edwards kinda broke the Drake Curse.”

A fourth person raved: “AND STILL! LEON EDWARDS! BROKE THE DRAKE CURSE!!!!!!! ROCKY!”

Edwards is a huge fan favourite in the UK after his dramatic victory over Kamaru Usman in London at UFC 286 earlier this year in March.

Covington drew criticism this week when he brought up Edwards’ late father in a press conference.

As tempers flared, he said: “I’m bringing you to the seventh layer of hell. We’ll say ‘what’s up’ to your dad while we’re there.”

Edwards reacted by launching a water bottle at his head before security kept them both at bay.

Rocky was 13 when his father died after being shot in a London nightclub and he got emotional as he discussed Covington’s pre-fight trash talk after picking up a dominant win.
