Chivas de Guadalajara part ways with head coach Ricardo Cadena

Chivas de Guadalajara have parted ways with head coach Ricardo Cadena following their early elimination from the Liga MX Apertura playoffs.

“Conviction, commitment and willingness from day one. Today we thank Professor Ricardo Cadena and wish him success in his future projects,” Chivas announced on Twitter.

Cadena’s departure is just one of many adjustments the team plans to make during the offseason.

“As part of the club’s project for 2023, which includes a new Sports Director and several adjustments at different levels, Club Guadalajara informs that it has been determined that Ricardo Cadena and his coaching staff will no longer be in charge of directing the First Team.”

The team has begun the process of looking for his replacement.

“Once the person in charge of the new project is appointed, and as decisions are made, all the adjustments of both the new DT, as well as the casualties and reinforcements will be announced to outline the squad that we will face next year,” stated the club.

Cadena first took over the team after the dismissal of Marcelo Michel Leaño on week 13 of the 2022 Liga MX Clausura, serving on an interim basis. He led the team to the quarterfinals that tournament, beating Pumas in the playoffs before being eliminated by Atlas.

He stayed on for the 2022 Liga MX Apertura, inspiring the team to ninth place on the table before quickly falling in the playoff reclassification match against Puebla.

Following the defeat, Chivas terminated the contract of Sporting Director Ricardo Pelaez as well.

The team will now have months to prepare for the upcoming tournament as the 2023 Liga MX Clausura kicks off in January.
