In a shocking turn of events, the Yobe State Police Command has arrested Mohammed Abdullahi, a 19-year-old resident of Buniyadi, for the heinous kidnapping and murder of his neighbor’s 11-year-old son in the Gujba local government area.

The apprehension of Abdullahi was part of a series of arrests made by the police, who paraded suspects at the command headquarters in Damaturu on Thursday, May 2, 2024.

Addressing reporters during the briefing, the state police commissioner, CP Ahmed Garba, revealed a disturbing rise in criminal activities in the region, citing alarming statistics of 31 armed robberies, 12 kidnappings, 55 homicides, and 115 theft offenses recorded in the first quarter of 2024 alone.

Providing details of Abdullahi’s depraved actions, CP Garba disclosed that the teenager had abducted his neighbor’s son and demanded a ransom of N600,000 from the victim’s family. When the ransom was not met, Abdullahi resorted to administering hard drugs to the young victim, ultimately resulting in his tragic demise.

“Mohammed Abdullahi, a 19-year-old suspect from Buniyadi, abducted an 11-year-old son of his neighbor and later demanded a ransom of 600,000 naira,” stated CP Garba. “When the parents of the victim could not meet his demand, he bought drugs and administered them to the victim to sleep, and the victim later died. The suspect later buried the corpse in their house while his parents were away and was later apprehended by the police.”

The arrest of Abdullahi underscores the urgent need for enhanced vigilance and decisive action to combat the escalating tide of criminality in Yobe State, as law enforcement authorities work tirelessly to bring perpetrators of such heinous acts to justice and ensure the safety and security of all residents.
