Wike’s Battle With Atiku Is About Northerners – Arewa Group Speaks

The Northern Awareness Movement (NAM) has called out the Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike over his constant attacks on the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Naija News reports that the rift between Atiku and Wike began after the PDP presidential primaries.

Still seething with dissatisfaction over the outcome of the primaries, Wike demanded that the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu resigns from his position, insisting that it is not right for the highest positions in the party to be headed by individuals from the same region.

However, Ayu and Atiku, on several occasions have said that it would be impossible to honour Wike’s request.

This has led to constant outbursts from the Governor who has been making several allegations against Atiku and Ayu on various media rounds.

Reacting, NAM issued a statement via its coordinator, Muhammed Inuwa on Thursday condemning Wike’s constant outbursts.

The group argued that it was important for the Rivers Governor to be called to order before he sets the entire country on fire with his ‘verbal diarrhoea’.

Inuwa noted that since all attempts to pacify Wike and his camp have not been reciprocated, it was now important to note that there is an undertone to the whole cries.

The group warned that other sister Arewa groups would not hesitate to treat Wike and his cohorts as an enemy of the North, if they persist with their constant attacks on the region.

Inuwa said, “We have gotten credible intelligence that the entire crisis is targeted at a particular section of the country, which is the North.

“We have it on good authority and evidence abounds with facts and figures at various times that Wike and his men have gone to press to disparage the North.

“We hereby conclude, without any iota of doubt, that Wike and his group have drawn the battle line with the North. The Northern Awareness Movement hereby calls on every well-meaning and patriotic citizen of this country to prevail on Wike to put a stop to any attempt to undermine the North.”
