Why Police Arrested Edo APC Deputy Chairman

The reason for the arrest of the Edo State Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jaret Tenebe, has been revealed.

It was reported earlier that the politician was arrested on the orders of the deputy governor of Edo State, Hon Philip Shaibu.

Tenebe was reportedly arrested in his Ikabigbo home town, Etsako West local government area, less than 48 hours before the Edo State House of Assembly election scheduled for Saturday, March 18, 2023.

It is now alleged, however, that Tenebe was apprehended over illegal possession of firearms and invasion of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Edo.

The Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, disclosed in a statement reportedly made available to Vanguard today that Tenebe was arrested alongside one Akeem Zibiri, a retired officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

According to him, the two adults were arrested on Thursday morning after allegedly leading some thugs to the premises of the INEC located in Etsako West, where the Police apprehended them.

The statement also claimed the thugs were led on a mission to loot and tamper with sensitive election materials ahead of Saturday’s House of Assembly elections in Edo State.
