When is the England Euro 2024 squad announcement? Date set for Gareth Southgate's team selection

Gareth Southgate is busy finalising his plans for Euro 2024 and he is set to name his final England squad next week.

England lost 1-0 to Brazil and salvaged a 2-2 draw at Wembley against Belgium, with certain individuals staking a serious claim for inclusion in the final squad.

Southgate can pick 26 players again after UEFA agreed to increased squad sizes despite initially reducing them.

When is the England Euro 2024 squad announcement?

The England preliminary squad for their two pre-tournament friendlies against Bosnia and Iceland in early June will be confirmed on Tuesday, May 21.

Of course, there are plenty of cup finals around this time, meaning certain players are unlikely to be available, so this squad could be quite large.

The deadline for the final 26-man squads for the Euros is Friday, June 7.

The tournament then starts the following Friday on June 14, with hosts Germany battling Scotland.

But England boss Southgate will be delighted that the squad sizes have been expanded.

Speaking before the decision was confirmed recently, Southgate said: “We’ve got to make the best decisions [regarding selection] with what we know and some of those currently are going to be medical decisions.

“We’ve been able to get those right in the previous [two] tournaments. We’ve been able to give people time [to recover from injuries, having named them in the squad]. But with 23 that’s definitely more difficult.”

But UEFA’s change of heart means that the England boss is going to be able to pick an expanded squad.

This also means certain players who might have missed out, should get a place.
