Umar Sadiq Returns to top form in time for 2023 AFCON

Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq has expressed relief as he regains top form following a challenging period.

The 26-year-old striker, who suffered a cruciate ligament injury in September 2022 during the league match against Getafe, underwent surgery and missed the remainder of the season.

Sadiq showcased his resilience by scoring in Real Sociedad’s recent draw against Osasuna, marking consecutive goals for the club since his return to the pitch after an 11-month hiatus.

Reflecting on his recovery and recent performances, the Nigerian emphasized his determination to improve with each game.

“I feel good, I think I’m getting better step by step because last season I was out. The more I play, the more I get better,” he said.

“It was not an easy game. We created a lot of opportunities, unfortunately. But we all know we deserved the three points.”

Umar Sadiq’s return to top form is not only a personal victory but also to fans and teammates.

“To play in this kind of stadium, against this kind of team is very hard. But I’m proud of the team because we fought hard and created a lot of chances, but it was not our day. Nonetheless, we keep going.”

The former AS Roma and Glasgow Rangers marksman is expected to be included in Super Eagles squad for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
