Uchenna Kanu Insists Falcons Have More Games To Play After Nigeria Vs England Clash

Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu has stressed that the Nigerian team is prepared to take on England in the round of 16 clash at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

After recording two draws (against Canada and The Republic of Ireland), and one win against co-hosts Australia, the Super Falcons made it out of group B and booked a date with the Lionesses of England in the round of 16.

The much-anticipated clash is scheduled to take place at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 7, at Suncorp Stadium in Milton, Australia.

Ahead of the clash, Uchenna Kanu who got her first Women’s World Cup goal against Australia in the group stage on July 27, believes that she and her teammates have many games to play in the tournament after the game on Monday.

“We are prepared. I’m happy with the performances so far. We are prepared for every game, one game at a time”, Uchenna Kanu told the Punch.

“Three games down, we have more to go, a lot of games ahead of us. Of course, the England game is going to be a really good match to watch and it’s going to be challenging as well, but we are prepared for whatever challenge. I trust my girls, we’ve been training and working hard and we are ready.”

Uchenna Kanu who plays as a forward for Racing Louisville in Kentucky described her goal against Australia as the greatest of her career.

The 26-year-old forward who failed to score any goal in the 2019 FIFA World Cup even though Nigeria made it to the round of 16 said her World Cup goal against Australia was a dream come true for her.

“Of course, because this is the biggest stage of my career and I got a goal, it’s like a dream come true”, Kanu said when she was asked if the goal was the greatest of her career.

She added, “I’m proud of myself and of course my team for the support, the passes that I’ve had, and also the goal and the assist. So, of course, it’s the biggest of it all”.
