Transfer: He’s like Ben Arfa – Chelsea legend warns Pochettino against signing Cherki

Chelsea legend, Frank Leboeuf, has warned the Blues, under the guidance of manager Mauricio Pochettino, against signing 19-year-old French forward Rayan Cherki.

Leboeuf also compared Cherki, who can play as a forward and also as an attacking midfielder, with former Newcastle player Hatem Ben Arfa.

He believes Pochettino doesn’t need the Lyon youngster in his Chelsea squad this summer ahead of next season.

Chelsea are in dire need of bolstering their squad after the likes of Kai Havertz (to Arsenal), Mateo Kovacic (to Manchester City) and Mason Mount (to Manchester United) have all departed the west London club this summer.

“Rayan Cherki is … you know, Hatem Ben Arfa who played for Newcastle [United] and for Nice, Paris Saint-Germain, Marseille and Lyon, skilful-wise one of the best players already on earth, 20 years old unbelievable,” Leboeuf told ESPN.

“I think it is a good investment, but sorry again, I am not sure that is the kind of player Chelsea need right now. They need experienced players. They don’t need the future; they need the present.”
