The apex socio-cultural organisation in Igbo land, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has requested the Presidency to jettison the decision to call the College of Nigeria Nsukka after Queen Elizabeth College of Nigeria, saying such transfer might be greatest for Aso Rock in Abuja or different elements of the North.

This was because it burdened that the previous presidential aspirant of the Younger Progressives Celebration, Adamu Garba, should tender an apology to Ndigbo for making such unhistorical comment.

Garba, had, on Friday, suggested President, Main-Common Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to immortalise Queen Elizabeth who died on Thursday, at 96, by renaming the UNN after her.

However reacting, the Chidi Ibeh-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in a press release by its Secretary-Common, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, stated such comment was able to instigating battle within the nation.

In line with the assertion, “The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has cautioned the Federal Authorities in opposition to renaming the foremost and most prestigious College, the College of Nigeria Nsukka after the late British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.

“The College has bequeathed a legacy in south-eastern Nigeria and it’s worthwhile for the previous APC presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba to know that the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Abia State, was renamed after the late British monarch, and is called Queen Elizabeth Medical Centre, Umuahia, but Nigerians have but to see the late Queen Elizabeth’s legacies in northern Nigeria. It’s acceptable for the North to have a justifiable share of the Queen’s legacy.

“If the Federal Authorities and the Presidency want to immortalise late Queen Elizabeth II, it ought to have a look at the position of the Queen in granting Nigeria political freedom and independence on October 1, 1960. And probably the most acceptable place to indicate gratitude to Nice Britain must be at Aso Rock.
