The home of Newcastle midfielder Joelinton was burgled on Saturday evening

Newcastle midfielder Joelinton has become the latest Premier League star to be targeted by burglars in a wave of break-ins across the country.

Jack Grealish’s house was targeted over Christmas whilst his family were at home watching him play on TV. Raiders took £1million’s worth of jewellery during the Boxing Day burglary.

His Man City team-mate Kevin De Bruyne saw his own 70-acre home in Belgium broken into in December while he was in Saudi Arabia for the Club World Cup.

West Ham’s captain Kurt Zouma was also targeted as thieves broke into his house in early December.

Raheem Sterling was forced to return home from the World Cup following a raid at his home in Surrey.

And Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof is yet another famous footballer who has been targeted.

The Northumberland mansion of Newcastle midfielder Joelinton Cássio Apolinário de Lira was burgled while he and his family watched the team’s 3-2 defeat by Manchester City at St James’ Park on Saturday night.

The Brazilian, who is currently injured, received a security alert on his mobile phone and immediately informed police that three men were in his Darras Hall home.

The property, where Joelinton lives with his partner and three children, was empty at the time.

Officers responded and a police helicopter was dispatched but the intruders had fled the scene.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: ‘Shortly before 7.30pm on Saturday, police received a call from a concerned homeowner who reported that three men were inside their home in Darras Hall.

‘Thankfully, the homeowner was not home but had received a security alert on their phone and immediately reported concerns to police. Police were deployed to the scene however, those alleged to be involved had fled the scene.

‘Enquires remain ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact us via 101, or the ‘Report’ pages of our website, quoting log NP-20240113-0835.’

Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish has spoken out after his Cheshire mansion was raided for £1million worth of jewellery by thieves on Boxing Day while his family were inside.

The footballer, 28, has spoken of his devastation over the ‘traumatic’ incident which left his loved ones terrified, as he insisted their safety is his number one priority.

Footballer Jack’s fiancee Sasha Attwood, 28, was with his family watching Jack’s match at their home and hit a panic button when the burglars struck.

It is thought 10 relatives – including Sasha, his parents, two sisters and brother – were at the property at the time of the burglary.

Sharing a picture of himself with his dog, Jack addressed the incident for the first time on Instagram on Sunday, describing the incident as ‘traumatic’.

Jack’s family were forced to run and hide for cover inside the £5.6million mansion that Jack only moved into before Christmas, while police told neighbours to lock their doors and stay in their homes.

Police, fearing they could face a potential hostage situation, rushed to the scene and even had a helicopter search the area, but the offenders were able to escape with £1million worth of jewellery.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne’s home in Belgium was reportedly trashed by burglars during a break-in in December.

The Manchester City star, his wife Michele and their three children were not at the property at the time of the raid.

Belgian news outlet HLN said items had been taken but no further details were available. The burglars used a stepladder to reach the first floor of the property in Bolderberg, Heusden-Zolder.

De Bruyne, 32, bought the 70-acre property in 2015 and built a villa made of natural white stone, which was completed in February 2019.

The house features a swimming pool, jacuzzi and basketball court.

West Ham United centre back and captain Kurt Zouma

Thieves broke into Kurt Zouma’s house in early December while the centre-back and his family were inside, taking expensive items as well as possessions with sentimental value.

The 29-year-old subsequently missed West Ham’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace citing personal reasons, with the club offering a £25,000 fee for information leading to the arrest of those involved.

As Zouma returned in time to face Spurs, David Moyes told a press conference: ‘We are happy to have him back.

‘He has been fine. It’s been a terrible situation for him and the club has supported him really well. He’s our captain and we are fully behind him.

‘No one would want that to happen to themselves. A reward has been put up and hopefully the police will get the people responsible for it.’

Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling was left ‘shaken’ following the burglary at his £6million mansion in December 2022.

Thieves broke into the father of three’s gated home before making off with a stash of watches and jewellery – prompting the shocked star to race home from Qatar to be with his family.

Police were contacted around 9pm on Saturday, December 3 after Sterling’s family returned to find ‘a number of items including jewellery and watches’ had been stolen.

The 27-year-old Chelsea star was given leave to return to the UK from England’s World Cup camp in Qatar after he learned about the burglary.

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof

The terrified wife and young children of Manchester United star Victor Lindelof locked themselves in a room as intruders broke into their home, while he played in a Premier League match against Brentford in January 2022.

In an Instagram story following the incident, Lindelof’s wife Maja said: ‘During Victor’s game this Wednesday night we had a break-in at our house in Manchester.

‘I was home alone with both kids but we managed to hide and lock ourselves in a room before they entered our house.

‘We are OK under the circumstances but it was obviously a very traumatic and scary moment for both and my little kids.

‘We are now in Sweden and are spending some time off with our families.’
