Roy Keane horrified by Manchester United stat and admits 'jury's still out' on Erik ten Hag

Manchester United legend Roy Keane was left horrified by one Red Devils stat and pointed the finger at Erik ten Hag.

Phil Foden inspired Manchester City to a 3-1 win at the Etihad over United on Sunday afternoon despite Marcus Rashford putting the visitors in front with a stunning strike.

However, that was United’s only moment of brilliance as City largely controlled the whole match, eventually going ahead through two wonderful goals from Foden before Erling Haaland added a late third.

Ten Hag has already tasted defeat 11 times this season in the Premier League – only in 2013-14 and 2021-22 (both 12) have they suffered more in a single campaign in the competition.

And that has left Keane seething with 11 games still to go in the Premier League.

“I can’t be too hard on Manchester United today as City were just brilliant,” Keane said on Sky Sports.

“They showed why they’re champions. That’s 11 league losses now for United.

“That’s one scary stat and what City do is they find out all your shortcomings.

“When you’re out on that pitch and it’s tough, there’s no hiding place. It’s like in boxing.

“City wore and wore them down. United had to take Jonny [Evans] off after around 60 minutes.

“They had to change the back four and they were hanging on anyway.

“It still leaves that question mark over where this United team are going.

Roy Keane jokes he will never forgive Wayne Rooney for what he did as they reveal hilarious away day story

“In the last 25 minutes, they couldn’t get anywhere near City, who toyed with them.

“It was men vs boys in the end and they were just hanging in there. Towards the end, you’re thinking it could be four or five.

“There’s still question marks of this team and unfortunately of the manager.”

United’s loss keeps them in sixth place but a spot in the top four is now looking increasingly unlikely, with fourth-placed Aston Villa 11 points ahead.

And Ten Hag must solve their attacking problems soon with their efforts in front of goal still concerning.

While Rashford did score a beauty, they managed just three shots in total against City – only once have they registered less since in the Premier League when they managed just two against Liverpool in April 2022.

United face Everton and Sheffield United next in the Premier League – both at Old Trafford – and will be demanding six points.
