In a harrowing incident that unfolded last Monday, a pregnant woman identified as Chinwendu Igwe was reportedly abducted while en route to the hospital for delivery. Sources indicate that the abduction took place in Egede, Udi local government area of Enugu State, plunging the family into a nightmare scenario.

Tragically, Chinwendu Igwe found herself giving birth to a baby boy in the remote hideout of her captors, deep within the forest. The ordeal unfolded while she was accompanied by her two young children, aged between two and four years.

The woman’s husband, Mr. Ekene Igwe, recounted the traumatic experience, revealing that he was compelled to pay a ransom of N1.6 million to secure the release of his wife and newborn son. The kidnappers had allegedly demanded the hefty sum as a condition for their freedom.

Amid the distressing situation, a compassionate motorcyclist emerged as a beacon of hope, rescuing the couple’s two abandoned children who were left stranded on the roadside by the kidnappers.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Mr. Igwe expressed gratitude to divine providence for the safe return of his wife and newborn child. The family, hailing from Attakwu Akegbe Ugwu Awkunanaw, remains shaken by the traumatic experience but relieved to be reunited.

This alarming incident serves as a stark reminder of the prevalence of kidnapping and the urgent need for enhanced security measures to safeguard the lives and well-being of citizens, particularly vulnerable individuals such as pregnant women and young children.
