Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, was plunged into mourning as a police inspector, attached to the Gwange Divisional of the Borno Police Command, reportedly took his own life.

The deceased officer, whose identity has been withheld, was last seen three days prior to the discovery of his lifeless body at his residence in the Layin Bayan area of Wulari Jerusalem on Saturday morning.

Neighbors raised the alarm after noticing a peculiar odor emanating from the inspector’s locked apartment. Upon receiving the report, officers from the Metro and Gwange Divisions were dispatched to the scene.

According to a source familiar with the incident, the police broke down the door and found the inspector’s lifeless body on the floor of his bedroom.

As of press time, the police authorities in the state have not released any official statement regarding the incident.

This tragedy comes on the heels of another loss within the police force, as Deputy Commissioner of Police Gbolahan Oyedemi, serving with the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Alagbon, Lagos State, was found dead in his private residence in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, just 10 days ago. Oyedemi previously served as the aide de camp to the late former governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, during his tenure in 2006.
