Peter Obi Faces Fresh Trouble As New Campaign DG, Osuntokun Is Asked To Resign

Fresh trouble has just surfaced ahead of the 2023 elections for Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as his newly appointed campaign Director-General, Akin Osuntokun, is asked to resign.

Naija News reports that Osuntokun, a former aide for President Olusegun Obasanjo during his civilian regime, was named the new Director-General (DG) of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) on Tuesday.

Osuntokun was appointed to replace embattled Doyin Okupe, who resigned as the Obi-Datti campaign council director-general days ago following his conviction over alleged money laundering.

However, the embattled Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, has kicked against Osuntokun’s appointment and asked him to immediately resign.

In a statement made available to reporters on Wednesday morning, Arabambi opposed Osuntokun’s appointment due to his membership in the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

“In my capacity as the National Publicity Secretary of Labour Party, I am opposing the announcement of Prof Akin Osuntokun as the DG Labour Party Campaign Organisation because at present, he is the Senatorial candidate of Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, Ekiti State and in the February 25, 2023, National Assembly election. The National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, by this treacherous act has compromised the victory of Labour Party and this political rascality will not stand,” Arabambi stated.

“I am therefore calling on Prof Akin Osuntokun to resign as the DG Labour Party campaign organisation with immediate effect or face court action within the next five days,” the statement added.
