Olympic Games: Super Falcons will Exceed Their World Cup Feat in Paris – Gusau

Nigeria Football Federation President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, says the Super Falcons will leave a big impression at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Nigeria’s qualification for the Women’s football event at the Games was sealed when the Super Falcons edged South Africa’s Banyana Banyana 1-0 on aggregate in the final qualifying round.

The nine-time African champions prepare to return to the Olympics after a 16-year absence since 2008.

Gusau assured that the team will do even better than they achieved at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“We shall try to better our World Cup performance where we crashed out without losing a single game during regulation time,” said the NFF Chief.

“The girls have shown resilience and determination to qualify for the Olympics against all odds, and I trust them to carry that same spirit to the Games in Paris,” Gusau told Complete Sports.

“The teams in our group are among the best in women’s football in the world, but I can tell you that we can only respect them but will not be afraid to play any of them. After a performance at the World Cup in Australia/New Zealand, I know none of the teams in our group will take us for granted.”

Drawn in Group C, Nigeria will face stiff competition against world champions Spain, Brazil, and Japan.

Nigeria will kick off its Olympic Games campaign against Brazil on July 25.
