Nuno Espirito Santo: Nottingham Forest boss asks ‘why always us?’ after red-card complaint

Nuno Espirito Santo asked “why always us?” after another refereeing decision went against his Nottingham Forest side in a 1-0 loss at Brighton.

“Someone tell me it is not a red card, am I saying something really stupid?” fumed the Forest boss.

The video assistant referee (VAR) reviewed the studs-up challenge, but did not ask referee Michael Salisbury to upgrade Moder’s yellow card.

“VAR stops the game, it is a clear red card,” added Nuno. “It is week after week – that is enough.”

The defeat left Forest just three points above 18th-placed Luton in the relegation zone.

However, the Hatters have the chance to go level on points when they play their game in hand against Bournemouth on Wednesday, before a vital clash at home to Forest on Saturday.

It is the second week in a row where Forest, who have hired former official Mark Clattenburg as a referee analyst, have voiced their frustrations with decisions.

Forest were incensed by referee Paul Tierney’s decision to hand possession back to Liverpool via a drop-ball before Darwin Nunez snatched a 99th-minute winner.

The club and first-team coach Steven Reid were charged for misconduct by the Football Association after confronting Tierney following the 1-0 defeat.

“I am just asking in a very honest way, tell me why. Why always us?” Nuno told Sky Sports.

Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White added to Premier League Productions: “It is getting ridiculous, honestly ridiculous. The amount of decisions that have gone against us is outrageous this season.”
