Nottingham Forest: Nuno Espirito Santo wants clarity over PSR charge
Nottingham Forest and Everton were both charged with breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules in January

Nuno Espirito Santo wants clarity about Nottingham Forest’s position ahead of a possible profit and sustainability punishment.

They are three points above the relegation zone – and Saturday’s hosts Luton – with a potential points deduction looming.

“We’re waiting and let’s wait and see,” said manager Nuno.

“We don’t know when it could happen, but the club will take care of that. Football-wise, we just focus on the pitch. We don’t know when it’s going to come. I prefer the sooner the better.”

The alleged breach of profit and sustainability rules (PSR) stems from Forest’s accounts for 2022-23. Clubs are allowed to lose a maximum of £105m over a three-season period, or £35m per campaign, before facing the risk of sanctions.

Victory for Forest at Kenilworth Road would lift them six points clear of the relegation zone and deliver a damaging blow to Luton’s survival chances.

The Hatters suffered a 4-3 defeat at Bournemouth on Wednesday – squandering a 3-0 half-time lead – and the result boosted Forest, with Nuno now underlining the importance of the weekend match.

“The result was good for us as it allowed us to keep the advantage, but we know Saturday is going to be a final,” said the former Tottenham boss.

“It’s a fight we have to be aware we’re in the middle of and we have to achieve the points.

“This game is very important, because of the circumstances. It is a huge game. All our focus has to be on this.

“They are a team who can score, have speed, they play in a particular way and we have to adapt and show we can take advantage of our qualities.”

American attacking midfielder Giovanni Reyna is available after injury as Forest look to end a three-game goal drought, with Nuno vowing to keep a clear head in the final 10 matches.

“In our careers all the managers experience bad and good moments, it’s all about reacting. If you are in a bad moment, stick together and react, bounce back and find solutions,” Nuno said.

“It doesn’t matter what you are playing for. It’s never done in football. Every week we have issues, it’s all about working and facing the situations day by day, but we are experienced enough to know we need points.”
