JUST IN: NLC Issues 48 Ultimatum To Police To Vacate NURTW Secretariat

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), under the leadership of Joe Ajaero, has issued 48 hours ultimatum to the Nigeria Police Force to direct its operatives to immediately vacate the National Secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Abuja.

The NLC, in a statement issued at the end of its emergency National Administrative Council (NAC) today, asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to withdraw his men from the NURTW office.

The labour group also urged President Bola Tinubu to without further hesitation, clear his name which is reportedly being peddled by those who have forcefully taken over the NURTW’s secretariat with the aid of security operatives.

NURTW Raises Fresh Alarm Over Planned Attack Of Its National Secretariat

Earlier on Monday, the NURTW raised alarm over an attack on its national secretariat located at Garki 2 Abuja.

Naija News reports that the NURTW, in a statement jointly signed by the President, Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, and General Secretary, Anthony Asogwa Chukwudi, on Monday in Abuja, alleged that there is an illegal plot by some leadership of the South West States Park Management Committee to cause chaos at its head office in Abuja.

The transport workers claimed that the group intends to hide under the guise of staging a protest against the just concluded 10th Quadrennial National Delegate Conference of the union held in Lafia Nasarawa State on Wednesday, 23rd of August 2023, to cause crisis and unleash mayhem on the FCT residents.

They disclosed that NURTW has it on good authority that the group had already imported thugs to perfect their plans and invade the National Secretariat on Monday, August 28th, alleging that the planned protest is a campaign of calumny against the union’s leadership.
