Nigeria’s Ukpanah wins Global Corporate Secretary award

Mrs Uto Ukpanah, Vice President, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), has won the Global Corporate Secretary award.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Babatunde Okuneye, Registrar, ICSAN, on Wednesday in Lagos

The award, which held on Tuesday in Malaysia, was conferred by the Corporate Secretaries International Association (CSIA).

CSIA is an international federation of professional bodies, representing more than a 100,000 governance practitioners globally and combines this scale and relevance to create an authoritative, global platform to promote good governance practices and enhance the profile of the professionals who serve as corporate secretaries and governance professionals.

Its membership cuts across 70 countries in four continents.

In her remarks, the President, ICSAN, Mrs Funmi Ekundayo, described Ukpanah, as an astute governance professional with a track record of excellence and exceptional leadership and expertise in corporate governance.

She said the development puts Nigeria and the institute on the global map as a governance hub, upholding the principles of corporate governance across all sectors of the economy.

“Mrs Ukpanah has indeed raised the bar of Nigeria’s global rating in the area of exceptional corporate governance and value adding company secretary practices,” Ekundayo said.

The awardee while expressing her gratitude, said that the award would push her to contribute her quota to deepen the entrenchment of corporate governance across the globe.

She expressed readiness to build collaborations and partnerships with other professional bodies and organisations to promote best practices and standards in governance and corporate administration.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ukpanah is also the company secretary of MTN Nigeria and a legal practitioner with more than 30 years’ experience. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
