Nigeria seeks U17 AFCON quarter-final ticket
The Nduka Ugbade-tutored side and their opponents are second and third respectively in the Group; with three points from two matches, but only the goal difference is separates them.
Nigeria started the campaign with a slim 1-0 win over Zambia, before losing by same scoreline to Morocco in the second game, while South Africa bounced back from 2-1 opening defeat to the North Africans with a 3-2 victory against Zambia.
As it stands, Morocco with six points already booked their quarter final spot, leaving both Nigeria Eaglets and
South Africa to for the next automatic slot.
A victory or draw should be enough to see the two-time champions through, while South Africa needs an outright victory from the game.
Speaking after the defeat to Morocco, Ugbade said his team cant afford to be wasteful against the South Africans, as they had 27 shots against Morocco but only registered four on goal.
“We must be more efficient with the chances we have. We will try to look for different ways, tactically, to impact the outcome of the game. We have a chance, but also, that chance can fade away. We have to work hard,” said Ugbade.
