Navy arrests three suspected oil thieves in A’Ibom

Officers of the Nigerian Navy, Ahead Working Base, Ibaka in Mbo Native Authorities Space of Akwa Ibom State, have arrested three suspects and seized a picket boat containing about 4,750 litres of oil suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit.

The Base Working Officer, Lt. Daniel Onyemaeze, who disclosed this on Thursday at Ibaka, whereas handing over the suspects to officers of the Nigeria Safety and Civil Protection and Corps, stated the suspects have been arrested on Monday, August 29 alongside Effiat waterways throughout a routine examine by the officers.

He defined that the merchandise seized have been hid in 19 drums, including that every drum contained 250 litres of PMS.

He stated, “This morning the FOB Ibaka is handing over 19 drums of suspected product to be PMS to NSCDC. They have been intercepted by our personnel within the FOB Ibaka throughout our routine patrol at waterways.

“That is according to the mandate of Chief of Naval Workers to curtail unlawful actions and prison actions within the waterways.”

Onyemaeze warned perpetrators of unlawful bunkering, oil theft, and different prison actions to desist from these nefarious actions or danger being arrested.

Receiving the suspects and displays, the Superintendent of the NSCDC, Candidi Odo, counseled the efforts of the Navy in decreasing illegality to the barest minimal on the waterways.
