Micah Richards met Gazza with Gary Lineker but was just glad he knew who he was after MoTD first impression

Micah Richards has spoken of the ‘unbelievable’ moment that he met Paul Gascoigne, even if he did get his name wrong!

The popular pundit accompanied Gary Lineker to England’s match with Brazil on Saturday where a number of former Three Lions stars were paying tribute to the late Terry Venables at Wembley.

Among the legendary names in attendance was Gazza, with Richards admitting that he was a little bit starstruck meeting the England legend.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Richards said: “It (the event) was unbelievable.

“So Gazza was there, he looks brilliant, he sounds back to his very best. He comes up to me, and first of all he calls me Miguel.”

Lineker then interrupted, saying: “Mickel he called you.”

Richards continued: “I’m buzzing he even knows who I am but anyway he comes over to me and goes, ‘When I was first watching Match of the Day I thought who the f*** is this?'”

“And he goes, ‘Then actually I thought to myself, this guy knows his stuff’.

“And I think he said, ‘Well done, good on you’. Those were his words so it was just brilliant. What a guy he is.

“[It was] The first time I met him properly where I had a conversation with him and I can understand for you guys, being around him it must have been amazing,” to which Lineker replied: “It was hilarious, mostly! He was something else.”
