The brother of Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has hit out at the side’s performance in their 4-0 drubbing at Crystal Palace and has criticised the team’s ‘boring’ tactics.

United needed to win at Selhurst Park to keep pace in the race to secure European football next season but now lie in eighth place in the Premier League table after victories for Newcastle and Chelsea at the weekend.

Just as damaging as the result was the performance, with United second-best throughout the contest and shipping 18 shots – 10 of which were on target.

It only took Palace 12 minutes to open the scoring, with Michael Olise dribbling uncontested though the middle of the pitch before bobbling an effort into the far corner, and the Eagles doubled their lead through Jean-Philippe Mateta just before half-time.

United offered little after the restart and Palace added a third goal through Tyrick Mitchell, with Olise grabbing his second goal of the evening not long after.

Erik ten Hag’s side have now recorded just one win in their last seven Premier League outings and pressure has ramped up even more on the Dutch coach – who insists he is still the right man to lead the club.

But it appears he may have some work to do to convince people that is the case, not least Garnacho’s younger sibling Roberto who took to social media to criticise the display, lament the side’s approach and defend his brother.

Writing on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, after Palace had taken a three-goal lead, he said: ‘What are we good at?

‘I’ll accept if we lose and we tried, if we have better and worse days, but this…

‘Playing backwards every single minute, it’s embarrassing.’

He continued: ‘Their centre-backs or full-backs get the ball and instantly go up, two or three passes and they’ve already created a chance.

‘And it’s f***ing boring to see us playing [Andre] Onana and then booting it away.’

The younger Garnacho sibling also hit out at criticism of his brother’s performance, saying: ‘If you say this [that Garnacho needs to improve] today you are simply being a hater.

‘When he tried and he did dribble his full-back then he was going to cross but no-one was in the box. There is nothing to do in the team we had nowadays and the way we play.

‘Then you see their wingers, how they got the ball and no-one comes to defend them, and they have all the space to do whatever.’

The run-in does not get any easier for United, with title contenders Arsenal travelling to Old Trafford on Sunday before games against Newcastle and Brighton.
