A tragic incident unfolded at the Lekki/Ikoyi Link Bridge in Lagos as a man identified as Azeez reportedly lost his life after jumping into the Lagos lagoon while being pursued by a mob for purportedly stealing bags of cement.

According to reports from the Director of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), upon arrival at the scene, Azeez was found lifeless in the water, having drowned during the incident.

Efforts to save Azeez proved futile, and paramedics from Pre-Hospital Care Lagos confirmed his demise at the scene.

The Lagos State Police Command released a statement regarding the incident, indicating that prior to jumping into the lagoon, Azeez was being chased by a man named Elijah Amos, who accused him of theft. The mob gathered at the scene reportedly witnessed the tragic event unfold.

The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Azeez’s death, while his body has been evacuated and taken to the Mainland General Hospital mortuary in Yaba for autopsy and preservation.
