Kylian Mbappe transfer round-up: Wages, contract details and teams interested as Premier League giants rival Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe’s future is once again set to dominate the summer transfer window after he told Paris Saint-Germain that he will leave.

Mbappe’s contract does include a one-year option for the 2024/25 campaign, however, only the forward himself can trigger that clause.

His availability will now lead to a mad scramble for his signature, with the World Cup winner the most coveted free agent in football.

When is Kylian Mbappe a free agent?

The 25-year-old’s PSG contract is set to expire after June 30.

As he is into the final six months of his deal, Mbappe has been free to discuss terms on a pre-contract with all overseas clubs since January.

Whenever an agreement is struck, the star would then join his new club officially on July 1, although he can be unveiled before then.

Which clubs are interested?

Mbappe has been a long-term target for Real Madrid, a club that he has reportedly decided to join ahead of next season.

The France captain looked set to join Los Blancos in the summer of 2021 before a last-gasp U-turn saw him pen fresh terms at PSG.

Madrid president Florentino Perez’s interest in making Mbappe the face of a new era of Galatico’s has never waved.

It’s a move that looks most likely to happen in the coming months, although interest from some of Europe’s elite can’t be ruled out.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also been linked, although the Gunners have been warned by talkSPORT not to sign him.

What will his wages look like?

Mbappe’s current salary at PSG costs the Ligue 1 giants around £170million per year.

So while his next move is technically a ‘free transfer’, Mbappe’s next club will still need to front a hefty pay packet.

Speaking on talkSPORT, European football expert Andy Brassell has already lifted the lid on the staggering finances behind such a move.

Mbappe’s refusal to extend his stay last summer led to him being banished from PSG training, with a transfer bid also accepted from Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.

But Mbappe agreed to forfeit a £68m loyalty bonus owed to him by his boyhood team, which saw him reintegrated back into the side.

Ally McCoist thinks Arsenal should steer clear of potentially signing Kylian Mbappe as they would not win the title with him the PSG star

Brassell told talkSPORT: “A free transfer as a free transfer is not free. There’s always a huge signing-on fee.

“So he would be getting an estimated €150m (£128.5m) signing-on fee from Real Madrid.

“Very unusually for Real Madrid, they would be letting him keep the majority of his image rights.

“Which obviously could run into not even the 10s of millions but the hundreds of millions.”

What has been said?

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has opened the door to a stunning deal for Mbappe this summer – before admitting Madrid likely have the edge.

“When there is a player of that calibre, we always have to be in that conversation,” Arteta told his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“But it looks in a different way, that’s what I would say.”
