In a significant breakthrough, law enforcement authorities have captured five suspected kidnappers accused of abducting a pastor’s wife and two other individuals, in an operation facilitated by the victims’ identification.

The dramatic turn of events unfolded after the victims managed to escape when the kidnappers inadvertently fell into a deep slumber induced by the effects of hard drugs they had consumed.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Garuba Mumuni (27), Yusuf Tale (21), Kabiru Muhammed (16), Shaibu Umar, and Adamu Mohammed (22), according to police sources.

Detailing the sequence of events, police reports revealed that the suspects were apprehended by officers from the Ofosu Division following the victims’ positive identification of one of the perpetrators.

“A case of kidnapping was reported at Ofosu Division, involving the abduction of a pastor’s wife and a church member, along with another individual who was taken while gathering snails on a farm. The victims managed to escape on separate occasions after the kidnappers fell asleep due to the influence of hard drugs,” the police statement disclosed.

Acting swiftly on intelligence, law enforcement agents arrested five of the six alleged kidnappers on May 1, 2024, as corroborated by the victims’ identification of the suspects.

In a separate incident reported on March 28, 2024, at Ifon Police Station, two individuals were abducted, and a woman tragically lost her life at the hands of suspected kidnappers.

Police detectives, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, apprehended three suspects named Muhammad Bello, Muhammad Suraju, and Suleiman Saliu in connection with the case.

Highlighting the victims’ pivotal role in identifying the perpetrators, police sources revealed that one of the abducted individuals positively identified two of the suspects, linking them to his ordeal and the payment of a ₦1,800,000 ransom for his release.

Speaking on the arrests, Ondo Police Commissioner, Peter Abayomi, affirmed that the suspects would soon face prosecution as part of ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping and related criminal activities in the region.

The successful operation underscores the critical role of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public in combating crimes and ensuring the safety and security of communities.
