Inter Miami set to release new NFL-inspired third kit after Lionel Messi helps them break little known MLS rule
Lionel Messi is an international superstar and his presence at Inter Miami has allowed them to break tradition in Major League Soccer.
The World Cup winner has enjoyed an excellent opening few months at the MLS side after a summer departure from Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi has so far scored 11 goals in 14 appearances and assisted a further five – a tally that proves he is maintaining his world-class reputation.
The Argentine maestro is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time and his move to Inter Miami sparked a huge increase in interest in the MLS.
As a result, his club have been rewarded with the chance to release a third kit in addition to their home and away strips next season.
Footy Headlines say that MLS sides need to sell a specific number of kits in order for them to be allowed a third jersey.

This number is believed to be around 100,000, with Inter Miami to release an extra kit for the 2024 MLS campaign.
Los Angeles FC, LA Galaxy, Kansas City and Portland Timbers are also set to be joining the Floridian side.
NFL side Miami Dolphins are said to be a source of inspiration for Inter Miami’s new third kit, with the two-time Super Bowl champions – whose Hard Rock Stadium is a 25 minute drive away from Inter Miami’s home ground – world renowned for their iconic aqua colour jerseys.
Before his arrival at the club, shirts with Messi’s name and No.10 on the back were so popular that they sold out instantly after his transfer was announced.

It was reported the backlog of orders remained for months after his arrival in the United States, with the pink Messi shirts outselling Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich kits, and even surpassing the number of Tom Brady jerseys sold following the NFL great’s move to Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It remains to be seen when Inter Miami will debut their new strip, with the 2024 MLS season set to commence in February.
Messi and co. have a series of friendly matches before then, including a clash against Cristiano Ronaldo’s side Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
They will also face the Argentine’s childhood club Newell’s Old Boys before returning to MLS action.
Inter Miami host Real Salt Lake on February 21 on the opening weekend that will see Messi make his comeback to the pitch.
