Institute inducts Immigration boss, speaker as Fellows

The Institute of Security and Strategic Studies (ISSS), has inducted the Comptroller General, Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, Speaker, Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Daura and Chief Eruba Dimgba as Fellows of the institute.

The investiture was conducted alongside the induction of 18 new members on Friday in Abuja.

The Chairman Governing Council, ISSS, retired Maj.-Gen. Garba Audu, said the new Fellows are now part of the national “Think Tank” on security management and administration.

He urged them to bring their experiences to bear in the search for peace and security in the country.

“Your membership will chart a new course of progress for the institute and your distinguished selves,” he said.

According to him, the institute was established in 2014 to advance the course of security in the country.

Audu said that security was vital to human and national development as no nation can develop without security.

According to him, ensuring national security is the duty of government, security agencies and all citizens.

“At the ISSS, we are committed to analysing the narrative that security is a collective responsibility of all citizens, who should be committed stakeholders.

“From its establishment, the institute has continually used its platform to develop communiqués addressing security challenges bedeviling the nation,” he said.

The Director-General of the institute, Mr Henry Nwakoji, said that its members and fellows were carefully selected with consideration of their background, experience and potentials to contribute to national discourse and development.

Nwokoji said the members were professionals brought together to create a wealth of knowledge where other people could tap from.

He said that ISSS was a reservoir of solutions to security issues, with top notch members in terms of knowledge and experience in the security sector.

The ISSS boss said the institute has continued to contribute to addressing security challenges in the areas of research and training.

“We are working with the government to make sure that we harness the potentials of individuals in their different departments with their different knowledge to assist in areas of research to provide lasting solutions to the myriad of insecurity that we experience in Nigeria.

“We are building the relationship towards helping the security architecture of Nigeria in terms of bringing on board knowledgeable people in the security sector,” Nwokoji said.

The Speaker, Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Daura, expressed optimism that the prevailing security challenges confronting the nation and Katsina State in particular, would soon be a thing of the past.

Daura said that both the sate and the federal government were doing their best and taking  workable steps towards addressing the challenges of banditry and kidnapping in villages.

He pledged to utilise the platform given to him by the institute to further assist government in proffering workable solutions to the security challenges.

“I want to assure the institute that I will continue to support and contribute toward the development and growth of the institute.

“I believe in the importance of security and strategic studies in shaping and safeguarding our society, and I am committed to working towards this goal,” he said.

The CG of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, who was represented by PAS Pepple, thanked the institute for the recognition.

She promised to make the institute proud as the CG of Immigration by superintending over a transformative NIS that Nigerians would be proud of. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
