In a startling revelation, forensic auditors contracted by Alex Otti, former gubernatorial candidate in Abia State, have uncovered alleged financial irregularities amounting to N107.2 billion during the tenure of the past administration.

According to Otti, the auditors exposed a series of questionable payments made to 72 contractors purportedly for the construction of the Abia Airport and other infrastructure projects, despite evidence suggesting that these projects were non-existent.

The findings of the forensic audit have raised serious concerns about the management of public funds and the accountability of government officials in Abia State.

Otti, who has been a vocal critic of the state government, expressed outrage over the alleged misappropriation of funds, describing it as a gross violation of public trust and a betrayal of the people’s mandate.

“We cannot stand idly by while billions of naira meant for development projects are squandered through corrupt practices,” Otti stated.

The former gubernatorial candidate called for a thorough investigation into the matter and urged the relevant authorities to hold accountable those responsible for the alleged financial mismanagement.

The revelations have sparked widespread condemnation from residents and stakeholders in Abia State, many of whom have expressed dismay over the apparent lack of transparency and accountability in government affairs.

Efforts to reach the representatives of the past administration for comment on the allegations have so far been unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the current administration in Abia State has pledged to conduct a comprehensive review of all government contracts and expenditures to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.

The outcome of the forensic audit is expected to prompt further scrutiny of government expenditures and serve as a catalyst for reform in the state’s financial management practices.
