Fuel subsidy: Our members are marginalised in palliative distribution - PWDs cry out

The Jigawa State chapter of the Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) has expressed worries over the alleged marginalisation of its members in the ongoing distribution of palliatives in the state.

Chairman of the association, Hon Adamu Shuaibu, raised the concern while briefing newsmen.

He alleged that the state government is working against the provision of the state’s persons with Disabilities Law (2016).

According to him “Despite the existing law that addressed some of PWDs challenges including accessibility to buildings and economic empowerment but still government considering it.”

Adamu explained that Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs), like any other Nigerian, are also suffering from the effects of fuel subsidy removal, but they were skipped in the ongoing distribution of palliatives across the 27 local government areas of the state.

“Based on the provisions of the law, we are supposed to be part of all the committees constituted by the government to handle the distribution of the palliatives,” he said.

Adamu, therefore, urged the state government to fully implement the PWDs law in the state.
