Foundation distributes foodstuffs to Sokoto displaced children

A group, T200 Foundation, has launched a novel charity outreach feeding about 10,000 internally displaced children and some vulnerable residents of Rabbah community in Sokoto State.

The children, who were within the age range of 0-17, are among those displaced as a result of banditry and other form of insecurity in the state.

They received bags of rice, spaghetti, sachets of tomato paste, salt among others

The Executive Director of the foundation, Emmanuel Osadebey, said during the feeding session at the non-formal IDPs camp in Rabbah Local Government Area of the state that the novel outreach was aimed at expanding love and care of the foundation to the less privileged people of Sokoto State by feeding them the same way their friends in affluent homes feed.

The foundation also organised a quiz and dancing competition for the children to develop their patriotism and talents on the national anthem, current affairs, 1-100 numerals and the 26 alphabets.

“It is high time we saw and develop the talents in these children and stop looking at their problems. We cannot achieve our target without coming to a community like this. We decided to come here so as to appreciate the impact of hunger in our society and the nation at large.

“We have been to three states. Apart from Abuja, we have been to Borno, Kano and now here in Sokoto. We are here to expand our care packages, show love to the people of this state.

“We believe a hungry man is an angry man and one cannot contribute to the government without food. So, we want to help them to contribute their quota to the development of the country,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the Sokoto State Government, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in the state, Amina Kabiru, commended T200 for contributing to the welfare scheme of the state government.

She said the state government appreciated the efforts of the non-governmental organisations in the state for contributing one way or the other in partnering with the humanitarian sector of the state.

She, however, disclosed that the state government was working on a plan to return internally displaced persons in the camp back to their respective homes once the raining season was over.
