Flamingos break quarterfinals jinx, advance to semifinal ahead of USA

The Flamingos have qualified for the Semifinals of the 2022 FIFA UNDER 17 WORLD CUP following a 4-3 penalty shootout victory over 3-time Champions USA.

Nigeria has never made it beyond the last eight of the competition and today, they made history.

 

Speaking ahead of the game earlier at the DY Patil Stadium, Coach Olowookere had promised Nigerians that his girls will do everything to progress and they did.

 

The Flamingos, defeated USA 4-3 on penalties (1-1 regular time) in the quarter-finals of the ongoing India 2022 U-17 Women’s World Cup on Friday.

 

This win means they will play in the semifinal of the Women’s World Cup for the first time ever. They will play the winner of Colombia vs Tanzania in the semi-finals on Wednesday, 26 October.
