Fans astounded by Tyrone Mings muscle loss after ACL injury as recovery video goes viral

Tyrone Mings posted a positive ACL injury recovery video and fans can’t believe how much muscle he has lost in his right leg.

The Aston Villa defender suffered his knee injury on the opening weekend of the season in their 5-1 defeat to Newcastle.

Mings was visibly emotional when he was taken off on a stretcher just half an hour into the match and he hasn’t played since.

In November, he posted a cryptic message on social media and fans questioned if he was going to retire, but this was soon quashed.

Now, four months on and another video of his recovery surfaced on social media, with the 31-year-old exercising his legs on a balance machine.

It appears as though his right leg has muscular atrophy, which is the decrease in the size of muscle tissue due to a lack of physical activity.

Fans on X were shocked as one said: “Sports guys go through a lot man, can’t lie.”

“That’s actually crazy and heart-breaking, to think what these lads are putting themselves through,” added a second.

A third said: “Years later and I’m still rebuilding the muscle from the atrophy from my surgeries. Feel his pain.”

“When you see things like this it makes you realise how patient you need to be when footballers come back from long-term injuries – these guys aren’t robots,” said a fourth.

Mings posted his own update on his recovery, saying: “One day it will all be a distant memory and an experience to be grateful for. Cannot wait for the return to Villa Park.”

Mings played a crucial role in Villa’s top seven finish in the Premier League last season, playing all-but three of their 38 matches.

He is now in his fifth season at the club, although it remains to be seen if he will feature again before the end of the campaign.

Villa currently sit fourth in the league and have a real chance of securing qualification for the Champions League.

They are also through to the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League where they will face French side Lille.
