Fabio Wardley vs Frazer Clarke rematch winner could land 'Saudi mega-fight', but not against Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury

Fabio Wardley or Frazer Clarke could be destined for a mega-money fight in Saudi Arabia.

That is according to talkSPORT boxing analyst Spencer Oliver, who assesssed Wardley and Clarke’s options after their epic heavyweight battle ended in a split draw, with a rematch now looking the most likely option.

Wardley dropped ‘Big Fraze’ in the fourth round but was left with his face in a complete mess by the final bell, after being forced to survive with a horrific broken nose for several rounds.

The winner of any potential sequel will claim the British and Commonwealth titles, and Oliver said during an appearance on talkSPORT, that he expects the winner to compete in the Saudi ‘super league’.

He said: “There is a lot going on in Saudi Arabia with the current landscape of the heavyweights.

“It is all about securing the financial security for your family.

“That is where all the money is at and all the heavyweights are, it is like a super league out there right now.

“And I think if we go again with the rematch, the winner puts themselves in that mix in Saudi Arabia.

However the former world champion went on to suggest it would be too soon to face either Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury.

He continued: “I think what we saw in the fight is that experience plays a big part.

“Wardley had the experience in the professional ranks, whereas Clarke had the experience as an amateur. But Wardley was able to weather the storm and come back.

“But I think Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are at that other level, I thik it is too soon for them right now.

“But I think fights like this are an apprenticeship for the biggest fights at the top level, and I think they both proved they are ready for the big fights.”

The second meeting is unlikely to happen for several months, given the pair were subject to heavy medical assessment after their damaging war.

But they could be thrust into a big opportunity next year, particularly given the dynamic of the division since Saudi Arabia have invested heavily in making the biggest showdowns happen.

Joshua has yet to secure another fight and was dealt a significant blow in his quest to become a three-time world champion, with Filip Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois likely to fight for the vacant IBF strap in June.

AJ is expected to lay in wait for a shot at the winner of Fury’s undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk which is set for May 18.
