Ex-NBA guard Darius Morris is dead

A former NBA point guard, Darius Morris, has died, his family said Saturday.

Morris was 33 and played for the Los Angeles Lakers and other teams.

“With great sadness, we announce the passing of our dearly beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris,” his family told TMZ Sports. “During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”

Fox News, citing TMZ, said Morris’ body was found in the Los Angeles area. No cause of death was immediately announced.

“We are heartbroken by the passing of Darius Morris,” the Lakers wrote on X.

Morris was a standout college basketball star at Michigan. He was drafted in the second round in the 2011 NBA draft by the Lakers. He played two seasons with the Lakers before he moved on to the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2013–14 season.

He also played for three teams: the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Brooklyn Nets, where he spent 2014–15.

Morris averaged 3.3 points per game in 132 career appearances.
