The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated investigations into a vessel and its crew members arrested by the Nigerian Navy on allegations of illegal oil bunkering and Automatic Identification System (AIS) infractions.

According to Dele Oyewale, spokesperson for the EFCC, the vessel named MT SAISNIL II and its 11 crew members were apprehended on February 7, 2024, at Abo Oilfield, Ogogoro Community, Ondo State. The Nigerian Navy, NNS Beecroft, Apapa, Lagos, transferred the suspects and vessel to the EFCC after their arrest.

The crew members have been identified as Jimoh Olusola, Akinrodoye Tobias, Idolor Ogun, Blessed Udoh Michael, and others. Oyewale emphasized that the EFCC is conducting thorough investigations into the matter and will press charges against the suspects once the investigations are concluded.

The arrest and subsequent investigation highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat illegal activities in the country’s oil sector.
