Alleged N3bn scam: Gov Nwifuru orders whistleblower's release from detention

Ahead of the July 20, 2024, local government election in Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Nwifuru, has assured that the imposition of candidates will be vehemently resisted.

The Governor who stated this during a church service at the Government House Chapel, promised that a level playing ground would be provided for all the aspirants.

According to him, stakeholders and people at the grassroots will participate in choosing credible candidates that will represent them.

Nwifuru stated this during the Holy Mass held at the New Government House, Centenary City, Abakaliki.

This was contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, on Sunday.

“I am delighted with the way and manner the Council Chairmen have handled the issue of security and the way they have interacted with the people at the grassroots. But as I told them last night, those who are seeking re-election should strive to earn the trust and support of the stakeholders and the people.

“Our party is a large one, therefore will do everything possible to resist the imposition of candidates. As a Governor, I will not have much to say on who becomes the next local government chairman,” he said.

He used the occasion to caution government officials to avoid resentment capable of tarnishing the image of the government.

“I want to also use this opportunity to appeal to Ebonyians to tolerate their shortcomings. They are less than one year in office, therefore they are still in the learning process,” he added.
