A medical doctor, Oyeyinka Oyetunde, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos State, over the alleged involuntary manslaughter of a patient.

The prosecuting counsel, Tola Esan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 16, 2020, at 1, Ajibade Oke Street, Isolo, Ikeja, Lagos.

She stated that the doctor failed to care for the patient, identified only as Uchenna.

According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to Section 229 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant, who was arraigned on one count of involuntary manslaughter, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In his application for bail, the defence counsel, Abayomi Omotunbora urged the court to allow his client to continue the administrative bail granted by Chief Magistrate G.O. Abayomi, of an Ebute Metta Magistrate’s Court.

Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe granted the request, noting that the defendant was not a flight risk going by his antecedents.

The court allowed him to continue on his bail with a condition to provide the evidence for which he was granted the bail not later than seven days from Tuesday.

The case was adjourned till December 19, 2022.
