Club’s Coach Offor Reveals Club’s Secret

The head coach of Sporting Lagos, Paul Offor believes that the secret behind the speedy success of the club is the club’s structure.

Recall that Offor led Sporting Lagos to win the Naija Super 8 competition just a few weeks after the club gained promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Sporting Lagos won the off-season competition 4-2 on penalties thanks to goalkeeper Christian Nwoke’s two saves.

The team which was established a year ago, gained promotion to the Nigerian elite league after a season in the Nigerian National League (NNL).

Ahead of their campaign in the second tier of Nigerian club football, Sporting Lagos signed coach Offor from Djeffa FC in Cotonou.

The former Warri Wolves assistant coach assembled a winning team that went on to gain promotion to the NPFL and also won the Naija Super 8 even though Sporting Lagos gained entrance into the competition via a wild card.

Days after leading Sporting Lagos to victory at the Naija Super 8 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, Paul Offor told the Punch that “Sporting Lagos is very intentional about growth”.

He continued, “It feels good that you set objectives at the beginning of the season and you achieve it… And the most important thing is the structure of the club.”

On his team’s win over Remo Stars, coach Offor added, “It was going to be very difficult. Coach Dan (Ogunmodede) is a fighter and we came off the back of two tough games against Katsina United and Akwa United. That was what affected us in the closing stages of the final, that we couldn’t run very well anymore and given the quality of Remo Stars, too, it was a good final.

“It was a privilege to play against big teams like Enyimba, Akwa United, Remo Stars, and Katsina United”.
